YOUR HOME

Choosing a session in your home is the best way to ensure your session is relaxed and easy. Everything you need is at your fingertips, you control the climate, and your kiddos are contained in a safe and familiar space.

Your home doesn’t have to be magazine worthy. All we really need to create stunning portraits is one good window in a clutter-free space. (Grab a basket, round up the clutter that accumulates, and toss it all in the bathroom until we’re done!). Even the window (while the best option) isn’t totally necessary. I can simulate one with my flash if I need to.

BEST TIMES:
Generally, between 9am and 1pm.
Specifically, whenever the room(s) you want to shoot in get the most natural light.
If you would like to shoot in your yard, choose a time closer to 8am

CITY & WOODED AREAS

Areas with buildings or trees to block the harsh sun are the most flexible when it comes to timing your session.

Sunrise/Sunset Look Up

BEST TIMES:
8-9am
4-6pm (aim for your session to end 30-60 minutes before sunset.)

BEACH + AREAS WITH UNOBSTRUCTED SKY

At the beach (and other areas without trees our buildings to block the sun), choosing the right time for a Golden Hour session is critical. The soft light in the hour just after sunrise and just before sunset is ideal for avoiding harsh shadows on the face and creating pleasing skin tones.

Sunrise and sunset times vary throughout the year. I recommend you look up the times for your desired date here:
Sunrise/Sunset Look Up

Sunrise is the absolute best time at the beach as the light is softest, the weather is cooleset, and there are fewer people around to photo-bomb us.

BEST TIMES:
Morning (all sessions): Choose the time closest to the sunrise time
Afternoon/Evening Mini Sessions: Choose the time closest 45 minutes before the sunset time
Afternoon/Evening 2-hour Sessions: Choose a time 1.5-2 hours before the sunset time
