Happy Birthday Lucy | Mobile, AL Birth Photographer
Krissy called me one morning in May to say she was in labor. I was really looking forward to this birth because a) I’d missed my last 2 due to COVID-19 and b) it was going to be my first birth with Alabama midwife, Colleen Tullis (Mother’s Comfort Birthing Services).
But a few hours later she checked back in to let me know labor had stopped. And it didn’t restart all day.
The next call I received was in the middle of the night… Labor had begun again and in FULL FORCE. However, Colleen was stuck at her birth center with another difficult labor. So Krissy and her husband were driving to deliver there… in Mississippi… over 2 hours from me.
She was laboring so hard, unsure she would even make to the birth center in time. But I jumped in the car anyway and hauled butt across 2 state lines, praying we’d all make it in time.
They did… I didn’t.
Even though I missed the actual birth, we were still able to capture the details of the birth space and all of those wonderful postpartum moments.
The only sure thing about birth is that it is unpredictable. Do you have a wild birth story with mad dashes your chosen birth space? Did you make it? Share in the comments below!
