I can’t believe it has been a whole year since Judah’s birth. (This family’s story of infertility and IVF is powerful and their birth was so incredibly joyful. If you haven’t seen it, check it out here.)

You know I love doing family sessions at home, so I was thrilled to be invited back to Rosalind + Steven’s home in Milton, FL for Judah’s first birthday family session and cake smash. We did part of his newborn session here while the house was under construction, and it was so awesome to see it finished (and pictures from his birth and newborn session all over the walls!). It was an early, cold morning in January, but the light on their huge property was absolutely gorgeous and we had a wonderful time traipsing around the pond, eating cake, and dancing to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse videos.

Rosalind thinks of everything and had their outfits perfectly coordinated to Judah’s cake and balloons, without being overly themed. Her plaid shirt/cardigan combo is such a great compliment to the cake and I love how she layered in another pop of pattern instead of just opting for a solid red shirt.

Judah wasn’t the biggest fan of cake, but mom and dad weren’t going to let any of it go to waste. How did your baby feel about his or her first birthday cake? Did they smash right in and go to town? Were they totally confused? Did they refuse to touch it?
