Selah's Fresh 48 session in Baptist Hospital's stunning labor and delivery suites. The space is absolutely exquisite, with beautiful light and finishings that create a dream-like atmosphere for welcoming a new life into the world.
Unfortunately, little Selah had a rough start as she broke her collar bone during delivery. Dr. Erika Schneider delivered and she said she hear it pop and that it isn’t uncommon in fast deliveries like Selah’s. Even though the doctors said it it wasn’t painful for her, I can’t imagine a broken bone not at least causing quite a bit of discomfort. Despite this, we did our best to work with her and capture some precious moments while meeting her needs with a snug swaddle, watching for early hunger cues, and ending the session earlier than normal when it became clear she was too overwhelmed to continue.
Mom and Dad took all of her screaming in stride and stayed pretty much totally relaxed and smiling the entire session. I am SO PROUD of them. I know this was the entire reason I was able to capture as much as I did in the small amount of actual shooting time that I had. I’m sure that’s much easier as 4th time parents than it is as a first time parent, but it is definitely something noteworthy. Babies cry, but that won’t ruin a session if you intentionally set a different tone.
Selah's arrival was quite a surprise, coming ten years after her older siblings. It was heartwarming to see how the teenagers in the family were completely smitten with their adorable new baby sister. Their love and excitement were palpable throughout the session. (And you know I had to get a shot or two of all them glued to their phones like typical (pre)teens.)
