Birth of Korra Rae | Sacred Heart Hospital Pensacola
As a birth photographer, there's nothing quite like the rush of adrenaline you feel when you're on call and receive the call that a mom is in labor. I recently had the pleasure of photographing Korra's birth at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida, and let me tell you, it was an absolute whirlwind.
When I arrived at the hospital, Vanessa had just made it to 6 centimeters dilated. I quickly set up my gear, making sure everything was in place, and was ready to begin photographing. However, things moved even faster than I anticipated. Vanessa started screaming that she had to push, even though the nurse had only checked her a few minutes prior and was hesitant to do so again. But Vanessa knew her body and insisted, and to everyone's surprise, she was complete and ready to push.
The hospitalist was brought in to catch, but something urged me to keep my camera focused on the door. And sure enough, in came doctor Medlock, running and making it just in the nick of time. Everything was so fast and Vanessa was incredible. She did it all without pain relief and an hour later, walked herself over to her postpartum suite like it was any other day.
As a birth photographer, I have to be ready to face challenges at any moment. In this case, it was the speed of the birth itself. But I was able to capture all the raw and emotional moments of the experience, and the end result was breathtaking.
It's moments like these that remind me of why I love this job so much. Being able to witness the miracle of birth and capture it in photos is truly a privilege. And I'm honored to be able to tell stories such as Korra's birth through my photography.
In conclusion, my experience as a birth photographer in Pensacola, Florida, was unforgettable. Especially with Vanessa's natural birth experience, and the thought that perhaps, without a doula or birth photographer, some of her story would have gone undocumented. It's a true privilege to be able to tell these stories and I feel grateful to be a part of it all.
As always, all images are shared with the written consent of the client. Thank you Vanessa and Tray for allowing me to share your story and images without restriction. I am truly grateful for the honor of documenting your story.
