My favorite way to vacation is to take a photography workshop. In November 2021, after my long set plans for a street photography workshop in France fell through, this Pensacola family photographer grabbed a last-minute spot in a family photography retreat in San Diego, California with the incredible Brooke Schultz. Her work is so emotional and gives me all the feels.

I’ve had her Love-Soaked family photography course for years, but I’m more of a kinesthetic learner. So I packed up my Fujifilm XT-3s and flew across the country to practice with 7 other photographers and Brooke. All of the families we photographed were so wonderful and genuinely excited to have a horde of people with cameras in their home.

This is the Diaz family and gosh were they just so perfectly melty and delicious in their love for one another. Mindy never stopped smiling and even though the boys were pretty shy and clung to their parents, they quietly followed directions and gave us a lot of soulful expressions.
