La Plage de Cabourg | Travel Photography

In September, I embarked on a solo adventure to France. Part of my trip was spent in Normandy for a week-long storytelling photography workshop with my friend and mentor Valérie Jardin, in her home city. I had the pleasure of staying at the glorious Grand Hotel Cabourg, located along the historic Marcel Proust Promenade in the charming little town of Cabourg. This top photo was the view from my balcony.

My main focus for the week was to document the locals on the beach and capture the intriguing stories of this incredible place. Armed with my camera, I spent hours exploring the town and coastline, walking miles and miles of beach during low-tide. Often sprinting across the sand to quickly capture a perfect shot of an interesting subject. Like the ladies in their robes walking down from the local spa for a dip in the sea. Or the trotters training on the shiny sand.

I have really fallen in love with street photography and the art of capturing life as it happens. For me it has become a kind of cross-training exercise. An opportunity to hone my skills as a photojournalist and challenge myself creatively, while immersing myself in the local culture. There is something so fulfilling about wandering to soak up and capture the essence of a place through my lens.

Documenting the world around us is a powerful way of preserving history and sharing stories with others. I hope my photos transport viewers to the sweet little town of Cabourg and allow them to experience the beauty and unique characteristics of this ‘petite ville’.
